[Dead] Toshiba e-STUDIO 5520C Will not Power up and no LCD Display

This is a machine I'm helping someone on (yeah, I know, find someone smarter than me to help!). We had broken couplers for 3 of the 4 developing units and replaced them. We then tried to power up the unit and fans would come on for about 3 to 6 seconds and the machine would power down, with only a power light. Pressing the power button did nothing.

Manual says "wait 1 minute" and try again" - essentially letting the power supply reset after what appears to be an overpower condition. Actually this seems to be some reset time much higher than "1 minute" - more like 5 minutes.

The machine does power up for those 6 seconds (sometimes it's much less) and I can get my 24V and then it dies.

I've done the usual things - checked plugs/jacks. I even tried "short circuit isolation" - unplugging motors from the LGC PWB and from the SYS PWB, hoping the machine will at least come to a fault condition. Nothing on the LCD display thorugh all of this.

I read elsewhere on another Toshiba (just search - No Power) that the power supply could be the issue. Are these power supplies *that* sensitive to power up that they can fail? Any suggestions would be helpful. The service manual is 2,000 pages of detailed information, but it's rather quiet on power up problems. In fact, it completely ignores power up issues in the section titled "5.2.1 Warming Up". The manual ignores power issues in the troubleshooting guide.

Any assistance/suggestions would be a great help!

    Thanks,

    Calcucatus

Just a silly question. I know you have checked the plugs. Those machines have 2 plugs. 1 for the machine and 1 for the fuser. We have had problems when people have plugged both into 1 extension. Have you tried booting up leaving the covers open and holding down 0+8 to go to test mode rather than the normal start up.
Sounds like there maybe a trapped wire somewhere.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

Well, this one is the 55 copy per minute and uses only the one AC outlet. I found a screw in the machine and am suspecting the power supply was damaged. At least that's where we are starting.

      Thanks,

Make sure you are using a dedicated 20 AMP Power supply. Also, a Tripp Lite LC2400 ($300) Line Conditioner solves many power supply problems, assuming the power supply in the copier isn't fried already.

I've seen this device used in other locations. I'm becoming a big fan of these Tripp devices. Thanks!
