[Misc] TOSHIBA e-studio 4555C - TOSHIBA Universal Driver

    hi Guys,

I have an e-studio 4555C printer on a server for network print. I used the driver: TOSHIBA Universal Printer 2. It is very slow when we print. It takes 20 seconds to print an all-text, single-paged word document. It also shows a "not responding" printing dialog box before it finishes. I have already disabled SNMP on the printer properties.

Do you guys have any idea on how to make it faster? Is there a setting that we need to tweak?

    Thanks in advance!

Re: TOSHIBA e-studio 4555C - TOSHIBA Universal Driver

Typical of universal drivers, The driver has to interact with the machine with every print job. I would recommend just selecting a PCL or PostScript print driver. Both will be faster than the universal, and have more features. Personally I lean towards PCL drivers in most situations. PostScript in graphic situations. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

From the server, go into the Print Properties and then go into the device settings tab.

You should find a selection there called something like "Update Automatically". Disable that and see how you go.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

            Hello,

I tried to download the driver: Windows e-Bridge Universal 2 PCL/PS 32/64 Bit Driver for my 4555C but it also gave me the Universal driver.
I still tried it but same results it is still slow. Thanks for your reply!

If you don't want the Universal driver, don't download the universal driver. You got exactly what you requested. =^..^=

I recently installed 24 eBX copiers on a large municipal network with the aid of the local IT Manager. The driver is definitely not slow. How long does it take for the green data lamp on the copier to begins blinking? Should be about three seconds if set up correctly on the server side. Something is wrong on your set up. Do you have 10/1000 selected in Top Access/ Admin/ Network/ TCP IP?

How have you configured your port? LPR, Print Queue Name: print. Byte counting and SNMP status unchecked?

The port is LPR, print queue: print. Byte and SNM unchecked.
For the Top Access/TCP IP: it is set to auto -100MB. I changed it to 1000Base FUll. I will observe if it will be faster.

What does -100 mean? Can it be the cause why printing is slow? Thanks

In a network, you can have the machine auto negotiate the speed which it communicates at of set it manually such as you have.

                      10 - 10 MBit a Sec
                      100 - 100 MBit a Sec
                      1000 - 1000 MBit a Sec (Gigabit)
                      10000 - 10000 MBit a Sec (10 Gig all though MFD's aren't yet capable of this speed)
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

                        Hi guys,

I have tried all your suggestions here but unfortunately, none worked. Our Toshiba printers are still very slow.
When I try to open the printer queue on the server, I can see that an 8MB file with 5 pages is processed very slow. Its like 0.01 MB per sec. It took 20minutes for it to be printed.

My server is Windows 2008 Standard 32-bit while the users are on Windows 7 64-bit. I have installed both 32 and 64 bits. will it be an issue?
Also, I have installed the driver locally on one user's machine and pointed it to the printer IP. It worked fine but it is not in the server.

Any ideas guys? Thanks for your help!

V1536 firmware? that could be part of the problem, it's old, you may want to try V2101
I would personaly take a clone of the machine, format the HDD, load V2101 firmware, re-load the clone file.
The driver is upto date enough, but I've found the Universal 2 PS3 driver to perform better on some servers than the normal Universal 2.

                              Regards.
