Question for refillers like myself... (Though I only use genuine Xerox toner, from one cartridge style to another, never generics...)
What is the behavior of the toner chip on the DocuColor 250 compared to its replacement 252 (and later)?
In other words... On their cousins the WorkCentre 76xx series vs the 77xx series, the 76xx series will happily re-use the same cartridge chip forever. If you refill the cartridge and reinstall, it will detect that it is "not empty" and use the whole cartridge of toner. An unlimited number of times. (Of course, the 0% to 100% toner life thermometer isn't accurate anymore though.) HOWEVER, on the newer 77xx Xerox changed the behavior. When you refill and reinstall the same cartridge back in, it will detect the toner and start printing, but after maybe 1000 prints or so, it will quit and say the cartridge is incompatible, presumably detecting that it has lasted "longer" than it should.
Certainly popping in a generic replacement chip would work fine, but that is an added expense.
On the DocuColor 250 vs 252 side of things, does anyone know where they stand? I THINK (but don't know for sure) the 250 will re-use the same chip forever, like the 76xx series, but I've never had a 252 owner confirm if it has the newer behavior like the 77xx series or not... I'm just assuming the 550 and newer all do, though that is just an assumption.
Thanks very much for any knowledge you may have to share!
