[Misc] Xerox Metered how to detect it , if it is not mentioned on the box?

    Hi All,
Does anyone know if a toner can be metered and sold at the same time? I have toner 006R0118, on the box is not mentioned that's metered, but on pdf from xerox 6R118 http://www.office.xerox.com/userdoc/...dfs/QRG_en.pdf under maintenance agreements...

Who can bring the light on it, shall I trust to pdf or what's on the box written... very confusing.. or shall I contact each time Xerox support?

    Thanks in advance.

It is possible to buy metered and non metered toner from Xerox.

To use the metered stuff a code has to be entered into the printer at setup.

Non metered toner will work in a metered machine, but not vice versa.

Thank u Phil for ur reply, but I wonder if is it possible to detect a metered product outter the box when Metered word isn't present on the box, without inserting it in printer or calling Xerox.
      Thanks

Whether a toner is "Metered" or "Sold" is determined by the part number.

In other words, they will have one part number for Metered, and a different part number for Sold. The box doesn't usually (ever?) say anything different, but the part number will be different.

I'm not familiar with 6R118, I think that is a typo in your email, but, just as an example, if that machine has both Metered and Sold toners, the Metered could be something like 6R118 and the sold might be something like 6R119... Those are fake part numbers, I just make them up, for the sake of example.

Different regions of the world also have different numbers.

Also, not ALL machines have both Metered and Sold. Some only have one type.

If a machines DOES have both Metered and Sold, they would never have the same part number.

Therefore, to determine if a toner is Metered or Sold, it is just a matter of buying the one with the right part number.

And as a previous reply mentioned, in all cases which I know of, a machine which requires Metered toners can also use Sold without problem, but a machine which required Sold toner can NOT use Metered toners.

The part number is also usually on the cartridge itself, either as a sticker or actually etched in the plastic. You can then match that part number to the Metered or Sold part number to know which one it is, even if you don't have the box.

Thanks for ur reply, and yes I made a typo in that p# , so correct p# is 0006R1182 , I have Xerox CopyCentre 123 machine under SOLD plan . Now I want to buy 6R1182 toner for it , as example look on this listing , no metered mentioned anywhere
New Open Box Genuine OEM Xerox 006R01182 Black Toner | eBay

but on this pdf see p# 6R1182
              http://download.support.xerox.com/pu...133_QRG_en.pdf

So I don't wanna risk and buy a metered toner . I know how Metered and Sold plans machines work.
My question is: Is it possible to I identify a metered product by box only, when there isn't written metered on it? or shall I everytime call xerox support or search via other official source for double checking?

              Thanks in advance .

If your machine is on the Sold plan, there's almost no question that you must use the exact right part number, only. If 6R1182 is not your normal part number, there's very little chance it will work. It's not just about whether it's metered or sold.

Pashu07 here in Uk toner 006R01182 is non metered (SOLD) so it should work with your machine as USA and UK should have the same parts.
Search only for this part number 006R01182 on a box.
I hope someone else can confirm this and then you can buy this cartridge.
