    Metered toner vs sold toner

We are formerly a Xerox Agency converting to ASP.
I'm doing some research on how to convert a metered toner machine to a sold toner machine.
I'm seeing some comments about a Xerox tech, for a fee, needs to visit and "un-brick" the machine.
    Is there anything to this?
What if we replace the CRUM chip and then use sold toner thereafter?
    Thanks for any insight.

I was reading this forum question.

Solved: Meter Toner Type - Customer Support Forum

I know I can't trust everything I see on the internet which is why I asked the question here.
If sold toner will work w/o changing anything in the machine we should be ok however, Xerox would try to disable any toner that is in the machine currently regardless of how much is left.

Yes this is true but after contract expire it will be necessary to put pin for a sold plan and this can block machine for a while until you get the new pin.

When metered contract expired machine will work with sold consumables.

Sometimes without entering a new pin machine will not be ready and displays message to enter a pin. I agree that it usually automatically convert to sold plan but not always. I even got one and saw this problem a few time in the past.
Like I said most if them did not ask for a pin but some did

As a Xerox ASP, you will be given all of this information. When a supplies plan expires, you fill out a short form and email it to the ASP team at Xerox. Within a few hours at most, they will have sent you a new supplies pin

if the machine has metered toner in it, once you put "sold" toner in it will run with "sold" but if you try to put another "metered toner" in it will trigger a "toner incompatible" message and the machine stops working. This is when a tech needs to come onsite, gather some information from the printer and call Xerox 2nd level support to obtain a special pin code that has to be entered back into the machine to get it working again. I'm not sure if replacing the crum would work but for the price of a crum would be a lot less than hiring a tech to come onsite

Exactly, but if a customer has both metered and sold in their supply cabinet and happens to grab a metered then bam, incompatible toner nightmare shows its face

No. Whatever toner you recieved and is onsite, you already paid for that, it's yours even if your service contract expired. Once your contract is done, they could care less about a little bit of toner left in the machine. Metered toner just means that as long as you have a service contract with a Xerox dealer, your contract agreement says you must buy toner from them not Office Max Staples etc. Those are called Sold Toners. They also have a toner monitoring program option for extra $$$ that you can have them watch your total levels remotely and automatically send you toner when the see your machine is low. When your service agreement has ended so does the monitoring toner option. Youre out of their system if theyre not making any money from you. Youre on your own. BUT if your machine is running on the sold toners be careful and make sure you dont put a "metered" back in lol It can still be resolved but you really need a Xerox tech that knows what theyre doing and has proper credentials to recieve xerox support if needed.

what do you mean? i have a xerox 5225 with a empty XER106R01306. Next installed a compatible toner and gave error. Now just put a new original XER106R01306 toner and it gives error.

if i put the first empty toner it does not give error and just say empty.
