    Canon ir3200 & imagepass c1

Hello everyone. First I'd like to say, nice forum, and I am glad I ran across this place. I have came a long way just by reading a couple post here that have helped in clearing the air about our "new to us" Canon 3200. When I first got it, I didn't even know what that "box hang'n off the back" was. This is our first copier, and boy was I struggling. Now that I've read, and studied, I have determined that the box on the back is in fact a C1.

I have read both of these threads, both from copytech forums.

    and

I will give you the run down of what I have done so far. First thing we did when we got the machine was clear everything. We did this via going to service mode, copier, functions, clear, and clearing everything that we could, and we did the MN-CON clear last.

That being done, I went into Service Mode, INT-Face, IMG-CONT and changing the number from 0 to 3. Restart the machine when it boots, I have the "Scan / Print" button now at the top right of the touch pad.

When I go to this tab, I get two options... the option on the left is "Remote Scanner" option on the right is "Printer". From what I've read, I should click on Printer on the right and be able to go into Functions and Run Setup. Instead I get this message that says:

"Wait a moment. Check the power source of the print server behind the main unit and the cable connection if the display does not change in a moment."

I have no idea what is wrong with it, the power cable is plugged in fine, and I've got a crossover cable from the card on the copier to the top port of the C1. Is there a way to test and see if the C1 is talking with the copier?

Anyway, this is where I am and I would greatly appreciate anyones help solving this issue and getting this baby to print via network. Hope everyone has a good day. -Brad

MN-CON should not have been cleared!

Chance's are firmware might have to be reloaded on to the machine and C1.

There's a panel that's located on the inside front cover of the machine that should have a sheet of some service mode values.

I would have someone who is certified to trouble shoot out your issue if I was you.

Do not make more of a mess of things.

what about your Network Cable/ is your Interface cable plugged in from C1 to 3200 ??

You better find those P Print Data sheets, if u cleared DCON & RCON u at least need those orig. numbers put back in.

why did u clear all that information ???? it makes no sense ~~~~~~~~~

      safety_no_brain..JPG

where did you or why would you buy an imageRunner 3200 with a C1 imagePass , without any knowledge of the options and operations
      of this unit.

Best bet is to call for service , ask for a trained tech. with network knowledge on your model

Well, one of the salesmen that work at our office knew a "canon tech" that he used to work with and he assured us that he knew what he was doing.. the "tech" is the one that gave us the instructions on "clearing" everything before we even got started hooking it up. Told us to clear everything and then put in our data. When I get to the office in the morning, I will make you a list of everything that was "cleared" in the service mode option. I can tell that this is serious, and I do apologize for my ignorance. You asked why I bought it with no knowledge of the copier / c1... well I didn't buy it, it was bought by my office and I am simply the "Network, Hey boy" guy around the office and was told to fix it. So here I am.... arms in the air I suppose. I do appreciate your replies. Also, which numbers do I need to go into service mode and look at to see if they have been cleared?

My list for tomorrow so I will understand correctly is to
        1. Find the numbers on the P Print printout in the front inside panel of the machine. (Any specific area I am looking for that the sheets usually are located, does front inside cover mean behind the drawers etc?)

I mean, I'm willing to learn, and follow instructions step-by-step, but from the sound of what you two are telling me, there's a slim chance that I'll get this up and running. At this point, I don't know if my Boss is willing to call in tech. support... so right now I'm on the front lines.

Thanks again for your help / support.

Tomorrow just hook up everything up. Its good that you see the printer tab, that means the 3200 is aware that there is a imagePass hook up to it. At least that part of the configuration is set up correctly. That tech is thinking ass backwards. You should print out a P-Print before clearing anything, that's protocol!!

I wouldn't even let him touch the machine!

If it still shows the message make sure that.
          1. Make sure Img-Cont is set to 3 in service mode Copier/Option/Int-Face. Which this is done>>
          2. Make sure the DIP switches on the imagePass are both in the down position. There is a little cut out hole on the imagepass C1, two little switches.
          3. Check the cables used to connect the imagePass to the copier. There are two cables that come with the imagePass, one a cross over cable and the other a regular patch cable. The cross over cable is shorter than the patch cable.
          4. Try reinstalling system software on the ImagePass C1. Next try refreshing the main unit to the latest firmware.

Tell your boss to consider having a trained Canon service representative fix up that problem.

          Good luck.

If one more voice from the choir will help convince you - I cannot emphasize strongly enough that at this point you should stop all efforts you are making and follow Tekcats and Screwtapes direction and call for a trained Canon Rep. Thats the best advice-----be smart enough to take it.

PS I'm not quick to criticize others but a lot of people will call themselves a "Canon Tech" and may have little or no formal training with the Brand.

                1. Checked to make sure, it is set to 3.
                2. I will upload a picture of my imagepass, but looking over the C1, I do not see the DIP Switches. On one side (left hand side if you're looking at the back of the copier) is two fans, the power switch and power cord. (Right hand side) I've got the top Ethernet Port, the bottom ethernet port, another type of port (looks like a big serial type port), and that's all. top side has nothing, bottom side has the serial numbers etc. sticker and that's it. Above the top ethernet port on the right hand side is a cut out, but it's empty... no switches to be found there.
                3. Got a cross-over cable that I hand built myself, and I know that works, because I've tested it with a direct connection to another machine and setup a LAN, and everything worked properly, going from the top ethernet port, to the copier NIC. Got a straight cable going from the bottom ethernet port, to my router.
                4. When we got the copier, there were no manuals, and no cd's that came with it. So unless I can download the firmware, and the imagepass software, I will be out of luck with this step.

Open Front door , look under that cover in picture, if they are not there u will have issues and a big headache .
Thank you for the picture, that helped a lot. There were no manuals, or no p print outs in the cupboard door there. I opened the box that looked like it would contain the papers by removing the two screws and lifting the box lid open, nothing there.

If I had the papers I would continue to go with the rest of your steps... but apparently I cannot do such things without the proper paperwork.

The problem with having to call a canon tech. is that I live in a small rural town in Alabama, and as you can tell, we apprently have a lot of shade tree canon tech's running around. I'm sure this will be quite an expensive venture to get done.

Is there any numbers or anything I can write to y'all and tell me if the settings and everything have been cleared out of the machine that need to be put back on? I can do a p print and tell you the boot loader #'s etc. Thanks again for all of y'alls help. It is greatly appreciated.

The best way to start, is to really call a pro.

It sucks but, It might be your best option.

You can do a lot of searching thru out the forum to help you out but, with out the right things you need like, firmware your gonna have a hard time.

Your situation is a little grim right now.

Well, I do appreciate all the advice then. I talked to Canon, and there is only 1 Canon Tech in my area. I know the guy, and boy this isn't good. The closest major city to me in 40 miles away. Calling in a tech. is going to be down right expensive I have a feeling.

                        WOW,

This machine is far behind. the latest is

                        MN-CON v90.03
                        D-CON v38.02
                        BOOT v70.01C

It probably has never been flashed before.

The C1 should boot in under 10 minutes. If you are getting this message after 10 minutes 90% of the time it is corrupted system software. You will need to find the C1 system software CD and use PDL downloader and the parallel port to install the software.

Try this, turn off/on the C1 and on the copier go to the printer tab. After about 30 seconds the screen will change form "Wait..." to "Enter Setup?". This screen only appears for about 10 seconds so if you missed it you will need to reboot. Press yes to enter setup and it should take you to a menu to run diagnostics, clear server, install software, restore to factory defaults etc... Do the clear server and since this is a new install go ahead and restore to factory defaults. If you can't get past this screen and only see "Wait...." the system software is corrupt.

One other snippet of advice here is any change you make to the copier will not have any effect till the copier is turned off and back on again...
