Perhaps the receivers fax machine / MFP is at fault?

Good morning. Didnt see in your post if you are using the Doc Feeder for Fax and Copy. Reason I ask is fax is most likely using the Doc Feeder as most copy jobs use the platen. Seems logical to ask as this may be something on the CVT (constant velocity transport aka doc feeder glass) vs Platen. Make a copy on the Platen and same copy using the Doc Feeder sounds like white out.

        Hope this helps

It was tested via the feeder and the glass and the result is the same (pic on the 1 st post)

          Thanks anyway for the input

This is one of the not-so-serviceable models (aka throwaways). The scanning head is probably shot. Only option is to replace the scanner assembly (CF288-60104). Can get a refurb one on The Printer Works.

I just can't figure out why the image is ok when copying or scanning to email via the feeder or the glass (which should mean that the scanning head is working properly ) and not ok using the fax . does the information passes trough a different logic board ??

Hmmmmm. Very strange indeed. The scanner assembly is connected to the formatter via 2 FFC's and a normal connector. The FAX board is also connected to the formatter via an FFC. I guess you can try reseating all the connectors and updating the firmware to the latest revision. I read through the fixes for the latest revision, but, it didn't mention anything about FAX. Nothing mentioned on HP's CSN site either.

The scanner should be fine. I think you have a problem in the fax board or connector. There is "noise" coming from something. I'm assuming you checked the line already. Hopefully you have a fax board handy so you can trouble-shoot easily. Best of luck.

                    Probably:

When you're scanning or copying, the scanner is looking for gray. When faxing, it's just black and white. If you look at the copies carefully, you might notice the left side is just slightly darker than the right side. But in a fax, it would show up as black.

Was this top taken apart (I'm not even sure if it's possible to take them apart)? This looks, to me, like one side of the scanner is kind of off track.
