T830 36" with error message - Printhead not fitted, undetected or incorrectly fitted. Have removed & cleaned contacts without success. Fitted new printhead kit & error still the same. Firmware is at latest level. Goes through all it's other diagnostic checks & comes to ready, but with the error message. I'm thinking Carriage Assy may be at fault, anybody else had this, suggestions or further checks please?

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
I would consider the trailing cable first, then the carriage, then the main PCA. I'm curious if you enter the service menu (home, back, home, home) and try to view the extra printhead information, what you get; can it tell you anything about the printhead? I would expect it to be unable to, but if it can that means at least there's some communication going on. Maybe try disconnecting the trailing cable from the main PCA and see if anything changes. If it doesn't, then the main PCA may be suspect.
Seems HP has discontinued the trailing cable. I'll see if I can find another part number.

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
Are you sure you have the correct printhead? And now I realize why you can't just replace the trailing cable; it only comes with the carriage assembly. F9A28-67003

Hi
HP 729 Printhead Replacement Kit, Part No.F9J81A. I believe this to be the correct one.
I have the Carriage Assy as F9A30-67061 & yes it indicates it comes with Trailing Cable & Belt too. I got this from the T730/T830 Service Manual. Maybe the part No. has been upgraded because of improvements

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
You have the correct printhead. Then I would replace the carriage and trailing cable and see if that fixes it and hopefully it's not the main PCA.
And for anyone who ends up here looking for the trailing cable or carriage; F9A28-67003 is the carriage for the 24" model. F9A30-67069 is for the 36" model. I inadvertently only listed the 24" carriage earlier.

Thanks Kiran, my customers machine is indeed a 36" & fingers crossed the carriage/trailing cable combination sorts itComment

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
Take care fitting the ribbon cable ends. It's very easy to damage the conductors. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
Having checked the error log afterwards, it records 0027-0059, which relates to a printhead error & 0800-0056, which may be more relevant, but isn't in the service manual.
I'm also unsure that the new printhead fitted originally, may have been corrupted in some way. The logical step next is to fit a new main pca, but it's getting very costly for the customer, so any further help would be appreciatedComment

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
You should be able to return the printhead as defective and get a replacement, from wherever you bought it. That would rule out the printhead for sure.

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
I just repaired a 36" T830 with the print head error. Customer ordered a new printhead and installed it, but it still read replace printhead. I noticed that there were small pockets of air in the ink hoses leading to the quick disconnect. I used a large syringe with a side hole and a closed tip to suck all the air pockets out of the lines that had air. Powered print off and back on and it started priming the ink system. After priming the printer started printing a job that was held in the que. You might try this even before buying a new printhead.

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
Update on the T830. Machine printhead message came back. After severval more attemps of uninstalling and reinstalling head, the message went away. So, I feel like it was just poor contacts quality. Clean contacts and will updated this post, in future, if problem comes back.Comment

Re: Designjet T830 - Printhead error
Unfortunately, I've bricked my machine, probably because I've tinkered with it too much. It doesn't turn on when I press the power button; instead, the power button just turns orange. According to the manual, I need to change the main PCB, but I'm unsure if it's worth it. I did try to suck the air bubbles and I did try to clean all the contacts. Thanks anyway!Comment
