    New HP 454DW firmware downgrade.

Is it possible to get an HP 454DW firmware downgrade to restore a printer to pre firmware upgrade that doesn't block generic cartridges? Is there anything else that can be done? Resetting to factory defaults?
How can HP get away with doing this without asking?

HP Color LaserJet Pro M454dw - HP Store Canada

"This printer is intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip, and it uses dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. A reused HP chip enables the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges."

... expect more of the same from all print vendors trying to lock in their consummable business with higher profits.

So the best scenario is to save the chips from a used empty cartridge and tell the printer to ignore the low toner messages?

... the best scenario is to not buy an HP printer. I do not know the answer to your question.

... I have the impression that any after automatic firmware update from HP any 3rd party toner in your printer will become useless.

That machine looks like a 479 without the scanner, I am in the same situation with the 479.

The update tool, whether it's the current one or a three-year-old version, goes online and looks for the latest. So this doesn't work.

What you need is a USB image of the previously working firmware, not easy to find, someone here claimed they had one that worked and after sending him two firmware files in exchange. I applied it and the machine with two compatibles, rejected one of them that previously worked.

generic=cheaper, but you pay more in the long run. as generic doesn't last as long, and it wears out parts prematurely....
