Re: best hp monochrome laser printer
Hp lj4050 is a reliable machine, plus its warm up time is fast. wonder why there are no reply to this thread as it is a valid question to all hp techs there.THE ONLY THING FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING..........edmund burke -
Re: best hp monochrome laser printer
It depends on what you want with a machine. If you want to print 2000 pages a day, an old 6P machine is not the best choice, allthough this printer is a good machine. So without some more detailed info you can't answer this question.Comment

Re: best hp monochrome laser printer
A responsible salesperson would gather a little information first:
What monthly volume?
B&W only or Color too?
How many paper sizes/trays?
What media types do you plan to print on?
What area would you like to put the equipment (A" x B", desktop versus console)?
Any additional functions desired? (Scanning, Copying, etc...)
Connection type? (TCP/IP, USB)
PC Operating System?
I know there are a few responsible salespeople ... somewhere.
You want a recommendation based on ... what? =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: best hp monochrome laser printer
If your looking for info on the printers available at the box store I can't help you there.
If you just want a basic low end printer I'd look for a lj4050/4000 or lj4100. Very reliable. I'd avoid lj3005 they seem to have problems with the formatter PCB. The lj4300/4350/4200/4300 are very similar to a 4100 but faster. They aren't bad but seem to go through the fuser drive gears (swing plate) more often.
If your looking for a mid-higher end I'd look for a 5si/8000, those were just tanks. 9000/9050 have replaced them and hold up just as good.
Really, aside from the 3005 most hp are very reliable. Dell and Lexmark make a very good MFPrinter as well. I have worked on many HP, Lexmark and Dell printers and have a lj4100 at home. The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way is comparable to the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junkyard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein. -Fred HoyleComment

Re: best hp monochrome laser printer
I have about 50 of these in my area.. Mostly a very good machine..easy to work on.. swing plates replaced so far is only 1...not bad... it was on one with over 500,000 on it. The biggest problems I've had with these is the engine power supplies, have had to replace 5 of them, but they were all in the first year and under warranty. A couple hard drives and formatters, but mostly just maintenance kits. So overall, I would say they are a very decent machine.Comment
