    Lexmark, MS621 - 31.60 error

    This printer is at a drug store. They installed a new imaging unit and are getting a 31.60 Imaging Unit Smart Chip error. I took out and reinstalled with no success. There's no visible damage. I rounded up the old image unit and got same error.


    I'm bringing the printer back to the shop in the morning. Anyone had this problem before?

      firmware? does it happen if you remove it from the network?

          I've seen this once on a XM1145 with an aftermarket branded refill cartridge. It turned out to be a bad chip. Swapping in a new cartridge solved the issue.

          On another XM1145 I had the customer force the cartridge in, breaking off the chip contact block on the inner frame. The error was "Door Open" since the door wouldn't close. It might have been something different if the door would have closed. And that contact block is not so easy to replace.

          I've seen a 31.41, when there was corrosion on the chip contacts inside the main body.

          That will give you a couple of things to look at. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              I don't think its a firmware problem. It was working fine until the girl removed a paper jam. That's what she said. I think she bent a pin that mates up with the chip on the imaging unit.

                  As always, thanks for the help. I'm think she forced the cartridge and bent a pin. I'll know more tomorrow.
